Cannon's DJ Service

INTRODUCTION

Cannon's DJ service started with a guy in a college dorm basement playing music for the love of music. A short time later, this same guy was asked to provide music for a wedding ceremony and reception of a dear friend who knew how much he loved music. This was the simple start of Cannon's DJ Service.

Now with over 20 years of experience, Cannon's DJ Service has entertained numerous crowds for all kinds of events. We work closely with the hosts or the couple to ensure that they get the event that suits them. We love getting to know people before the event to better understand them and their musical taste. We love to watch guests and see what gets them moving. Receptions are the easiest for this, while people are eating, drinking and being merry, we keep an eye on who is dancing in their seat, or tapping their toes and make a note of what got that person moving. Reading a crowd and catering to them is an important skill that we use to entertain the guests.

We appreciate the trust that clients put in us to deliver the best service and consider it an honor to be a part of their special event.

Song Suggestions

When trying to think of what songs you wish to be played and at which part of the ceremony, please keep in mind the mood you are trying to establish, the music should reflect that mood. Do you want your entrance to regal, humorous, romantic, or spirited? Is the first song you dance as a couple going to a slow love ballad or a more upbeat tune? Whatever you decide, the music will help set the mood you are looking for. These list may not necessarily be the best songs for you or your reception, but if you are not sure of the music you want played during your reception, please listen to my recommendations. You may then want your DJ or myself to incorporate these songs into the plans of the reception.

Father/Daughter Dance

Your father/daughter dance is a special song. It may be selected by the father for the daughter or for the father by the daughter. This song can be played before the wedding party dance, if so let your DJ know that is how you wish. The lyrics should help express the feelings between the two. If you have a stepfather and wish to dance with him as well, let your DJ know you will need an additional song. If you are not close to your father but will still afford a dance with him, I advise an instrumental (ie. Kenny G or Bach) piece so that lyrics will not convey incorrect emotions.

Garter Removal & Toss Song

Usually a humorous song to set the mood for the event of the garter removal, but sexy or romantic can also work. You will have to decide if you want the grooms' hands held or tied back by the best man. If you decide to let the winner of the garter toss put the garter on the bouquet toss winner, let the DJ know before hand so he can prepare to talk up the catch of the garter (most guys don't try to catch the garter). If by chance a young girl or boy is the winner and you change your mind, let your DJ know then. Recommendations follow.

Dollar Dance Music (Optional)

A tradition but not necessary. It is completely up to you the couple whether or not you want to do this. It allows guest to dance with the bride and groom, while the best man and maid (matron) of honor collect the money to see who can raise the most. Most songs from previous list will suffice, choose at least three slow songs to dance with your guest. This time can also allow guest an opportunity to congratulate or advise you. Song advice follows next.

  • "Into the mystic" - Van Morrison or Wallflowers

  • "Years From Now" - Dr. Hook

  • "Angel" - Aerosmith

  • "We've Got Tonight" - Bob Seger

Anniversary Dance

After the DJ gets all the married couples on the dance floor, the DJ will then start thinning the group by having the couples married less than 10 years leave the floor, then 20, and so on until the last couple on the floor has been married the longest. Since they have been married the longest they would be the best to advise the married couple, so with they would impart this sage wisdom to the newlyweds.

  • "I'll Be There For You" - Bon Jovi

  • "Look At Us" - Vince Gill

  • "Have You Ever Loved A Woman?" - Bryan Adams

  • "You're The First, The Last, My Everything" - Barry White

The Last Dance

I, as a DJ, do not like to play a last dance at a reception, because normally the wedding couple has left previously. But, if you wish to have a last dance with your guest, the immediate listing may help with the choice of song, if you do not have one already thought of.

  • "Closing Time" - Semisonic

  • "Last Dance" - Donna Summer
